Corporate Renewable Power Purchase Agreements are now available to schools, making it easier than ever to secure long-term renewable energy and reduce costs.

Australia is the sunburned country. And business are the ones reaping the rewards.

Across its sweeping plains, wind and solar farms are popping up at a rapid pace. These farms are generating an enormous amount of low-cost renewable energy and a new generation of energy deals is making this available to businesses for the long-term.

Corporate Renewable Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) are allowing businesses, like schools, to tap into low-cost long-term renewable generation in their search to become more sustainable.

Until recently, only large corporates and organisations, such as Mars and Coca-Cola Amatil, have had the clout to access these agreements. Now, the market for PPAs has opened up.

Retailers, like Flow Power, are able to pass on innovative PPA models to schools, making it easier than ever to become 100% renewable. Let’s take a look at how these PPAs can benefit your school.

Bring down your costs

Renewable sources are now the cheapest source of new generation, filling the gap left by the closure of aging coal-fired power stations.

Interest rates are low but competition to secure renewable PPAs is high. This is why schools will see greater financial benefits when signing PPAs earlier, rather than in two to three years time.

Put simply, PPAs benefit schools. They offer low-cost energy supply linked to a secure renewable power source for long-term periods and enable schools to meet sustainability goals while also supporting Australia’s pipeline of renewable projects.

There’s just one catch – the offtake from renewable generators secured by retailers like Flow Power is limited and once it sells through, PPAs with certain wind and solar farms will no longer be available.

A flexible energy solution

For today’s schools, there is no one-size-fits all power solution.

Instead of traditional fixed-rate contracts, schools need flexible energy agreements that support their rapidly evolving needs and function in their communities.

PPAs are flexible by design. During the design stages, retailers assess a business’s energy consumption profile and needs to determine the most suitable source of generation, whether that means wind, solar or both.

Keep it cleaner

If your school has sustainability goals or commitments in place, Corporate Renewable PPAs offer a pathway to fulfil these goals.

Schools can contract Corporate Renewable PPAs that meet as much as 100% of their energy consumption, making them fully renewable. This means that carbon emissions associated with energy used from the grid are offset by renewable generation added to the grid.

In addition to this, schools that get behind Corporate Renewable PPAs generate important investment for Australia’s renewable projects.

In fact, it would take as few as 670 medium-sized businesses signing onto corporate renewable PPAs to drive investment in more than 1845 MW of renewable generation.
